We all have to start somewhere and our small beginnings don’t have to dictate where we’ll end up. Our individual journeys will look different. We may have some people who try to turn us down or knock us off course. Ultimately it’s up to us to know our worth, and act accordingly, in the face of doubt, uncertainty, and opposition.

One of the things that can keep you in a negative cycle is comparison. Comparison doesn’t have to control you, but what would it take for you to finally stop the cycle? How can you turn your comparison into inspiration?

Beyoncé is preparing to drop her highly anticipated Renaissance act ii album, Cowboy Carter and she has already had commotion going. Watching her prepare for this project is a great opportunity to reflect on my Renaissance experience and some of the lessons that we can all take away from her journey.

One of my goals for the new year is to read more books. Even though I can struggle with getting as many books in as humanly possible, I’m still able to take away from the good gems I do find. My latest read is Just As I Am by Cicely Tyson and it’s particularly relevant given that we are now in Black History Month.

You’ve probably heard it all before. “It’s not what you know, it’s who you know”. If you’ve really been in on the game you’ve probably also heard, “it’s not what you know, but who knows you”. Always doing the right things, saying the right things, and always being the right one. It’s a wonder how you seem to get everything right. So what happens when everything starts feeling wrong?

If there is one thing I can be 100% sure of it’s that good things are on the way to me. Time and time again I have seen how even in the most challenging and strange circumstances things have always worked out in my favor.

There’s something to be said for actually having the time and space to figure out who it is you want to be, where you want to go, and ultimately what it is you truly want for yourself. The highs and lows are endless and there are so many lessons to be learned along the way. Along with the pleasure of stepping into your true form and becoming the highest version of yourself, comes a very unique pain that is a unique part of the process…

We’re always changing, and the fact is that we don’t know who we’re going to be, or what’s going to happen in the next month let alone the next year. We have some routines that are established and habits that we’ve formed, and we may not know a life without those things. Change can be a scary thing and there has to be some motivation or even a simple reason why we want to start changing.
