A quarter-life crisis is something that’s unique to people in their mid twenties to early and one of thirties. Life can quickly become tricky and one of the trickiest things to figure out is the future. What happens when our future is unclear and we begin questioning the the things we’ve been taught are the “right things to do”?
As we go through life we have our steps laid out for us. If we go to college we’re given a curriculum that makes our path very clear. Once we reach adulthood, things become fair game. There’s no rules and no roadmap available for us to follow.
For people in their twenties and thirties, life can seem like a jumbled mess. Life is changing and the ride is getting a little bumpy. You could be moving out for the first time, or starting your first 9 to 5. Maybe your friends are moving onto different things and you’re reevaluating your life. Either way life is throwing a major curveball and you may or may not be fully prepared for it.
Ways to know that you may be going through a quarter-life crisis include:
- Comparing your life to your peers’ and feeling like you’re following behind
- Experiencing general dissatisfaction with your life and having serious concerns about your future
Let’s take a deep breath for a second. Life may seem like it’s out of control, but you’re doing fine. There’s nothing wrong with you and you are in a period of intense discovery. You’re going through a process and the process may be hard.
So, where do we go from here? How do we cope with this time in our lives and what can be learned? In Episode 3 of my podcast I discuss, going through a quarter-life crisis, extending grace to yourself, and coping. I also share some resources and different tools to continue taking care of your mental, spiritual, and emotional health.
