Finding your Voice in a Loud World

In a world of social media, retweets, followers and likes it can be difficult to find your voice. There are plenty of moments where I’ve felt like my voice wasn’t special (which is ironic since I’ve been blog writing for some years now). It can seem that way when you feel you aren’t validated, but the key is to figure out how to validate yourself.

Remembering the Small Things

I’ve kind of been in a little funk as of late. For some reason, I’ve felt like my life has been stagnant and that not much has changed even though I’ve been praying about a number of things. It’s almost as if I’ve been going to new places but staying in the same head space. Kind of like I’ve been taking one step forward and two steps back. Almost as if I wasn’t experiencing any kind of abundant life. Even though it is discouraging and frustrating to feel this way, it’s even more frustrating to admit to myself that I haven’t been doing much to correct that way of thinking.

It’s easy to feel like you need more. Maybe you feel like you need more friends. Or maybe you feel like you need more things to come your way. Hitting Mute

I think something that social media really fuels is the need to be accepted or validated by other people. It’s almost as if it’s not enough to have a really interesting hobby or to be a relatable person. Now it seems as if you can only really be all that you are if you have at least one hundred likes, one thousand followers or twenty plus comments on Instagram. This isn’t to knock down anyone who has found success using social media (more power to you). The issue at hand is really that we are allowing “acceptance” from other people to define who we are or who we can become. I’ve been guilty of this even beyond social media.
