
Can you believe we are actually getting to the end of 2021? The irony is that as we enter into 2022 we are headed straight into the path of another COVID surge. I can see how this is nerve wracking for a lot of people. Even I’m concerned! Let’s no forget the fact that I have been in a pandemic for a good portion of my twenties (this definitely is not the biggest issue, but I mean can I get some time to enjoy the world?).
Even with all of that going on, I am still thankful to have made it to end of 2021 safe and healthy. I am thankful that my family is safe and healthy and that I am able to look back on the year in a pretty positive light. In my latest podcast episode, I get into my goals and intentions for the new year as well as some limiting beliefs that I’ve been working through.
Core Beliefs
One resource that I want to share is a website that had some great worksheets that helped me begin to identify the limiting beliefs I was holding onto. It was tough work, but it was worth it. According to Positive Psychology, “Core beliefs are our most deeply held assumptions about ourselves, the world, and others. They are firmly embedded in our thinking and significantly shape our reality and behaviors.”
I knew that for a long time I had struggled with feelings of worthlessness and had a deep longing for connections. Growing up I was very insecure and I felt like the best way for me to avoid being negatively judged or ostracized was to basically hide myself away. Of course I was a child when I decided this, but I had no idea how this way of thinking would affect the rest of my life going forward. Here’s a quick reel about how some of those limiting beliefs can affect friendships.
A core belief can be formed after a traumatic experience or sometimes it can be formed after someone says or does something to you. For me it formed because of the way I was treating myself. Looking back, I was pretty mean to myself and I have to forgive that because I didn’t know any better. I didn’t know that that would affect the way I saw myself or the way I interacted with other people. I didn’t know that I would experience social anxieties because of that experience. Some of those thoughts you have about yourself that are negative could come from core beliefs that you have about yourself, other people and the world around you.

I think going into the new year I am in a better position to act on my goals and intentions, and to go forward and truly learn what it means to live my best life. I really have changed since the beginning of the year and I want to continue cultivating my confidence and allowing myself to be seen. I have so much to look forward to and even with these new COVID surges, especially with these new COVID surges, I intend to continue prioritizing self care.
