Flipping the Switch and Becoming the Main Character

One way to know that you are healing and changing for the better is examining the way you treat yourself. How have you been treating yourself lately? What do you think about the person you are becoming? I can honestly say that I feel a shift between the old ways in which I treated myself and the new ways in which I show myself love and appreciation. I had to just let go of the worries and doubts and realize that I was worthy of good things and that I had everything within me that would help me achieve those things.

I recently took a quick trip to the Malibu area to celebrate with my sisters, but also to take a break from the routine I had found myself in. Vacationing and resting are luxuries, but they are also ways of rebelling. Do you know how good it feels to set up automatic replies in your emails? Talk about freedom from corporate! In any case, we live in a world that loves productivity. We feel this pressure to monetize every aspect of our lives to the point where we can’t truly find time to rest (and I mean rest, not just power naps in between meetings).

Nothing is more important than your mental health. How are you supposed to grind and hustle when you don’t even get enough sleep? How can you say you are well-rested when you don’t even remember the last time you weren’t thinking about work? Don’t get me wrong. These things can be a lot easier said than done, but I think we all deserve some luxury.

While vacationing is definitely a privilege that is not afforded to everyone, getting away and taking a break in any way you can is so helpful. It helps to put things into perspective and allows you to ease up a little. Whether it’s a few hours, days, or weeks getting away is a blessing! There are so many things that can get stuck in your mind in between work, school, family etc. I think that when we get sucked into all these other areas we lose sight of what we need to be doing for ourselves. Life is meant to be fully experienced and that requires us to do nice things for ourselves when we get the chance.

When you take a break you realize how much work can wait.

When you do for yourself you realize how much more you should do and how nice it is to show yourself some kindness every once in a while.

Breathe. Relax. Let go and do for yourself.

Let this be a sign that it’s time for you to flip the switch!
