
Karsten Bush is an engineer, STEM and DEI advocate, speaker, dancer, and content creator. She was born in South Bend, Indiana and has lived in California for the majority of her life.
Growing up, Karsten was a high-achieving student who enjoyed math and science. She graduated from California State Polytechnic University – Pomona in 2019 with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering.
She currently works as a Consultant Engineer at FM Global where she helps to assess risks for various client locations. In her free time, Karsten also enjoys mentoring and encouraging young people to pursue STEM careers. She also advocates for diversity and inclusion in tech spaces. She previously held a position as a nonprofit board member of Black Girls Do Engineer – Los Angeles Chapter, as the Executive Director of College Mentorship and Career Readiness.
Karsten has been a part of various panels including the Career STEAMposium at Pasadena City College, the NSBE Jr. Women’s History Month Panel, and the 14th Annual Circle of Change Leadership Experience for the Tech and Entertainment Panel. She has also spoken at Cal Tech for the Center for Diversity and Inclusion as part of the Black History Month STEMinar. She has also participated in activities for Society of Women Engineers (SWE) and the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE).
Ultimately, Karsten would like to reach her full potential through personal and professional development. Her hobbies include roller skating, dancing, and creating content for her blog and podcast. She launched her podcast, “The Words with Me Podcast” in 2021, where she discusses a range of hot topics including, pop culture, reality T.V., healing, growing, and being a late bloomer.
